Obituary for Manuel "Manny" R. Teixeira

Manuel Ramalho Teixeira, 73 passed away at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, NJ, on Thursday Sept 13, 2018. Manny came to the United States at an early age and resided in the Ironbound Section of Newark, NJ for the remainder of his life.

Manny had a “heart of gold”. He was generous and loyal to his family, his friends, and strangers alike. He gave his time, his love, and his dedication to everyone he loved and his community. Manny loved to be social and could start up a conversation with anyone. He loved to sit and have cake and coffee with his family and would never turn down a party. He loved to go to Boston to watch B.C. football games and he would jump in the car at the drop of a hat to go visit someone, or help them out when they were in need.

Manny was a Lead Vault Clerk for Engelhard Industries for 43 years, retiring at the age 62. He was a Boy Scout in Portugal and at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Manny served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1967-1969 where he was a Chaplain’s Assistant and was Honorably Discharged after serving during one of the most difficult years of the war. Manny was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Newark, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, an Usher and a Volunteer for the Annual Feast. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society and the Mount Carmel Society. Manny served in various positions in both societies. He was also a member of the Ironbound Senior Center on Rome Street and loved to spend time there playing bingo and helping out his senior friends in any way he could.

Manny was the beloved husband of Joyce N. Villani Teixeira for 48 years; devoted and loving father of Jennifer Monzon and her husband Luis; and cherished grandfather of London, Nico and Luna, who were his pride and joy. He was a loyal brother of Jorge Teixeira, Dina Lourenco and her husband Carlos Lourenco and the late Alberto Teixeira. He was also loving “Uncle Manny” to many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and even great-great nieces and nephews and an honorary member of his beloved extended Nagy and Rocha families.

The Funeral for Manny will be on Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at 9:30 AM at the Buyus Funeral Home, 426 Lafayette St. corner Wilson Ave, Newark; thence to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Newark, where at 10:30 AM, the Funeral Mass will be offered. Entombment will be at Holy Cross Chapel Mausoleum, North Arlington, NJ. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend.

Visitation for Manny will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/give, would be greatly appreciated.
